Chavez dramatically lost his middle weight championship belt to on September 15, his failed drug test was exposed shortly after. Chavez was almost immediately suspended by the and fined $20,000.
Chavez was previously charged and suspended in for consuming another banned substance that helped him cut weight, found on a drug test in 2009.
The decision made was of standard procedure for the commission, in a case involving an athlete and a failed drug test.
Chavez could face up to a year of suspension and a $300,000 fine, that’s about 10% of his purse for the fight with Martinez.
His sentencing is more severe than the average case involving a failed drug test, due to his previous conviction.
